FIDH (International Federation for Human Rights) is an international NGO working for a world where the dignity and human rights of all people are respected and fulfilled. Since 1922, we have been committed to the defence of all civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights as defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

We are a federation of 192 national human rights organisations active in 117 countries. We believe that the transformation of societies is first and foremost the responsibility of local actors. Our activities aim to strengthen their capacity for action and influence.

The International Secretariat of the FIDH is a human-sized organisation (45 employees in Paris and 14 employees in several offices abroad), composed of a committed international team.

We are recruiting :

A REPRESENTATIVE TO THE UN IN GENEVA (M/F)

Reporting to the Director of Advocacy based in Paris, your main responsibilities will include :

1) Define advocacy strategies with the UN, in consultation with dedicated internal interlocutors, to work towards strengthening the UN human rights machinery.

-To elaborate the annual programming of activities and the specific action programmes for donors, and to ensure the follow-up.

Develop the delegation's communication strategy to the UN.

2) Implementing the activities of the delegation :

Contribute to the definition and orientation of recommendations for IGOs.

Coordinate and supervise the organisation of the participation of FIDH member and partner NGOs in the political mechanisms and interlocutors within the United Nations.

To coordinate and supervise the feeding of human rights protection mechanisms and UN institutions, based on the evolution of these tools, information from FIDH, its member organisations and partners.

Representing the FIDH to international organisations and institutions in Geneva, as well as to other interlocutors (donors, NGOs, media) by developing links with them.
Oversee the development of the strategy to promote FIDH activities to the general public in the countries where FIDH delegations are based.

3) Ensuring the reporting and evaluation of the delegation's activities :

- Oversee the implementation and reporting of an advocacy programme covering FIDH's advocacy actions and participate in the reporting and evaluation of the delegation's activities in various other formats (monthly and annual internal reports, relevant narrative reports for other donors).

4) Facilitate and strengthen interaction with internal and external stakeholders,** ensuring good quality on-site support to the Leagues at the interfaces, sharing information on the Delegation's strategies and activities, and developing partnerships with other NGOs.

5) Managing a team (currently one employee and one trainee)

6) To ensure the day-to-day logistical and administrative management of the delegation.

Profile required

You have a postgraduate degree in law, political science or international relations and 5 years of professional experience, including 3 years in an advocacy role.
You have an excellent knowledge of UN human rights mechanisms, enabling you to choose the best lever to achieve the desired result. You have a very good knowledge of international human rights law and standards.
You have a sense of daring and opportunity to define and implement impactful action strategies. You are able to prioritise and manage advocacy actions.
You will be able to work independently to implement the strategic orientations defined in conjunction with the Advocacy Directorate.
You have a very good capacity to represent, negotiate and support our member and partner organisations' representatives. You have good public speaking skills.
You know how to manage a team.
Fluency in French (C1) and English (C1). Excellent writing skills in these languages. Knowledge of another UN language is an asset. Knowledge of Open Office is desirable.

Terms and conditions of employment

Full-time permanent contract (40 hours per week). Position based in Geneva. Salary of 76 000 FCH gross per year over 13 months. 25 working days of paid holiday per year and 24 additional days of rest per year. FIDH reimbursement of health insurance for an amount of approximately CHF 590 per month. 100% coverage of the cost of public transport passes in Geneva.
