Description:
The Chittagong port is the principal port of Bangladesh and therefore has a very special role to play in the national development process. It is is the largest international seaport on the Bay of Bengal and faces substantial logistical and socioeconomic challenges. With the recent revolution and changes in transport caused by the introduction of special cargo and container ships, the transport system has made remarkable progress, which also affects land transport centring around the port.
In order to cope with this revolution in sea and land transport technology, it is indispensable to improve the terminal services at the port and build capacity at the Chittagong Port Authority Training Institute (CPATI).
It is expected that at the end of the project CPATI will have the academic and organisational capacity to develop, implement and maintain an educational programme in various subjects:
-
operation and management of terminals;
-
marine operations;
-
navigational port safety;
-
safe channels;
-
organisation and operation of a Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS).
This will enable CPATI to deliver graduates that respond to the labour market needs.
