Strengthening of the capacity of Risk Management in the vulnerable areas of Los Mina Norte and in the Municipio de Santo Domingo Este

Detailed description of the project: 

The overall objective of this project was to strengthen the local authorities response capacity and the community organizations acting in the vulnerable areas of the quartiers of La Barquita, Vietnam and Puerto Rico, that were settled around the area affected by the flooding of Ozama river. For these purposes were developed actions destined to the prevention and the risk management oriented to avoid, prevent and manage the disasters from a gender perspective, considered women’s high vulnerability. In the end of the project the results expected were as followed:
Result 1. Designed and executed a training program addressed to community leaders and local authorities on risk management.
Result 2. Created and trained 1 committee and 3 sub committees on risk management in vulnerable areas on the quartiers of La Barquita, Puerto Rico and Vietnam with capacity to act in case of emergencies and risks.
Result 3. Designed and started-up a risk management plan in the vulnerable quartiers. Were estimated that 5 community organizations and 5 public institutions were integrated on the Risk Management Plan.
Result 4. 600 families in vulnerable conditions were trained on risk management at familiar and community level.
With those actions the project aimed to strengthen the level of organization and articulation between public authorities and civil society’s organizations facing disasters, and offer a conceptual instrument (the risk management plan) could help the development of a better operational capacity on the risk management in the vulnerable quartiers of Los Mina Norte
