Description of the Required Services: To build the capacity of district councils (Mchinji, Dowa, Kasungu, Lilongwe, Ntchisi and Nkhotakota) along Bua River in Ecosystem-based management approaches and develop a Participatory Ecosystem Restoration and Management Plan.

Scope of Work:

1 Training of targeted councils on Ecosystem-based Approaches: Support the facilitation of a training on EbA, including the landscape approach, for district councils based on the training needs assessment developed by the international firm.

2 Development of the Bua River Ecosystem Restoration and Management Plan
a) Conduct an ecosystem baseline inventory to define and identify priorities for restoration and management in consultation with the respective councils, communities and relevant stakeholders
b) Identify key value chains with potential to transform livelihoods and recommend key investments points for those value chains with emphasis on women and youth.
c) Identify current restoration and management interventions for possible upscaling and out-scaling, motivating factors for implementation, barriers and key success factors
d) Assess the feasibility of Payment for Ecosystem Services scheme and recommend key value chains with potential to transform livelihoods while highlighting key investment points for those value chains with emphasis on women and youth. Collaborate with International firm to integrate best practices and lessons across the region.
e) Identify and map out all stakeholders, institutions and coordination platforms including local committees and the private sector within the ecosystem for the purpose of identifying possible synergies, opportunities for financial investment and propose gender responsive institutional arrangements.
