Description

Power Distribution Program.

Power Distribution Program (PDP), with is the largest and broadest in scope of the six energy sector activities announced by Secretary Clinton in October 2009. The goal of the program is to improve the performance of the GOP-owned power distributions companies "DISCOs" by supporting improved management and controls, reducing technical and non-technical losses, increasing collections, and providing more reliable services to their customers. These actions are intended to enhance the autonomous operations of the DISCOs in line with the objectives of the previously-launched reform of the Pakistan power sector. The goals of the reforms are to improve operational efficiency, enhance creditworthiness, and thereby increase both public and private investment in the entire power system, raising the competitiveness of the economy and improving the quality of life for the population. Once the current transition in the power sector has been completed, the DISCOs should be in a position to independently operate all aspects of their business for which the expansion of the PDP project with IRG is crucial to assure success.
