Protection of the Atlantic Rain Forest in the State of Rio de Janeiro

Technical, administrative, operational and financial assistance to the Client in all stages of the project cycle. Included are, among others, the elaboration of implementation concepts and strategies for protected areas management, and the financing of infrastructure and environmental actions aimed to implement and optimize the protection of the Mata Atlântica in the PA and buffer zones. The services rendered include assistance to the client (IEF/RJ) in:

• Operational planning, technical and financial management of project, tender procedures and contracting;

• Updating of strategies, methods and instruments regarding sustainable use and protection of the natural resources;

• Technical support and studies for the establishment of new PA;

• Elaboration and implementation of management plans for protected areas in the context of spatial planning, together with the local population and civic society;

• Implementation of environmental strategies and activities for buffer zones of the PA;

• Design and implementation of infrastructure and procurement of equipment for PA;

• Training of PA staff in PA management and administration;

• Organisation and implementation of an integrated Environmental Monitoring System and strengthening of involved institutions;

• Establishment of forestfire management systems;

• Definition and specification of hardware and software for monitoring and control (GIS and GPS), and for the combat of forest fires;

• Training and promotion of implementing agency staff.
