Description
This project was part of the approach undertaken by Burkina Faso through the implementation of the Strategic Framework for Fighting Poverty, one of the major objectives of which was to encourage economic growth. With regard to the northern region, this objective can only be achieved by supporting an increase in plant production through irrigation farming in general, supporting the generation of revenue and rural jobs and minimising the high level of immigration of young people to other less hostile regions.
The project primarily aims to achieve four (4) objectives:
- To support agricultural production potential through the development of 75ha of land downstream of the Thiou, Titao, Tougou and Samba dams;
- To set up and revive producers’ organisations in order to facilitate the sustainable management of the developments to be carried out;
- To increase the powers of such farming organisations through training in the fields of financial management, the environment and rural economy, and
- To provide such farming organisations with agricultural equipment.
