Description

The Port of Gijon is the leader bulk port of the Spanish ports system with an annual average traffic of more than 20 million tons for the last years. Forecasts for iron and coal traffic in the port for the following years notably exceed the capacity of the present terminal.

The current expansion project of the Port of Gijon will win 145 hectares on the sea by the construction of a new breakwater of approximately 4 km length formed by 140,000 concrete blocks of 10 to 200 tons and with a dock of 30 meters height. The new dry bulk terminal established in these facilities will have an unload capacity of over 25 million tons per year.

On the other hand, construction Works also consist of the connection “Central Electric Aboño - Port of Gijon”, which includes a road of 1,332 meters long and a tunnel of 390 meters long under Cape Torres.
