Description
Objective:
Kazakhstan, as the Convention member country on Biological Diversity should carry out research and
monitoring of biodiversity throughout its territory for the purposes of conservation and sustainable use of natural
resources. Hunting grounds are located on Kazakhstan's largest ranges of species diversity, but due to lack of
adequate monitoring programs, scientists do not have a full understanding of the biota of these areas. In 2011 there
are 673 hunting farms. Area - 117.8 million hectares. In Kazakhstan, the regulation of hunting is based primarily on
economic principles, while it should be environmental-economic approach, with the important geographic, social,
ethical and other factors. The main objectives of the project - identifying the threats to biological diversity of hunting
grounds of Kazakhstan, the rate of loss of species, reasons for declining numbers of species. There is development of
special measures for the conservation and restoration of the hunting grounds of Kazakhstan.
Project outcome:
- The scheme of zoning on a scale of 1:1000 000 is created and mapped.
- The distribution of rare species of biodiversity of hunting areas is mapped.
- The requiring the establishment of new special protected areas or gentle mode are identified.
- Species of flora and fauna of hunting grounds are classified by region.
- Knowledge about the importance of preserving rare species distributed among the population.
- A list of measures conservation of rare species of flora and fauna of hunting grounds is developed compiled.
- GIS of use of biological diversity of hunting grounds is established.
- Make recommendations for a balanced use of biodiversity, the hunting grounds
- A plan for restoration of rare species of flora and fauna of hunting grounds.
- The Atlas of hunting grounds, which includes maps with habitats of rare species, their photo and description is created and published.
Project duration: 3 years.
