Lake Louise Transportation Study, Canada
Details
Locations:Canada
Start Date:Jan 1, 1998
End Date:Dec 31, 1998
Sectors: Research, Training
Description
Lake Louise, a jewel in the Canadian national park system, is a popular destination for domestic and international tourists, but its popularity is problematic. Visitor growth in the Lake Louise Hamlet, Upper Lake Louise, and Moraine Lake areas threatens ecological integrity and the quality of visitor experience while placing unacceptable strain on physical infrastructure, transportation in particular. The Lake Louise Transportation Study assessed the existing transportation situation, reviewed transportation trends in other tourism and protected areas around the world, and suggested a process to select, evaluate, and implement a series of short, medium, and long-term actions. For the Study, HABICO reviewed documents, analysed data provided by Parks Canada, made field observations, and led workshops, meetings, and interviews with local stakeholders and Parks Canada staff.
