Description

Client: APM Terminals Management BV.

APM Terminals operates a global network of port, terminal and inland services, including 61 marine facilities and 132 inland service locations in 63 countries. APMT employs 24,000 persons worldwide. Being a ‘trade-enabling’ company, its activities have a profound direct impact on the societies and environment in the countries in which it is active. Many of these countries are emerging markets that are characterised through fragile social, economic and environmental situations.  APMT is firmly committed to design, develop, operate and maintain economically, environmentally and socially advantaged facilities. In addition, the CSR policy of APMT comprises a wide range of measures. In this context, APMT has embarked on a socio-economic study to highlight the company’s footprint on society in the geographic areas where it operates. Ecorys developed an analytical framework and methodological template for APMT to conduct socio-economic impact assessments. It is based on internationally recognised and transparent approaches such as the Sustainability Reporting Guidelines set by the Global Reporting Initiative.  The template offers a structured approach by including the same set of indicators and data collection methods for each socio-economic study to be conducted for the various operations run by APMT around the world. The template also prescribes the way of reporting that is similar for each socio-economic study.  The feasibility of the template has been tested by Ecorys on site in Poti Sea Port, Georgia.
