Description

The World Bank, seeking to update the study “India: Port Sector Development – Possibilities for Accelerating Growth” that was delivered in 2007 has assigned to Ecorys to support the Rakesh Mohan Committee and  the National Transport Development Policy Committee by updating the existing India port sector study.

For this project Ecorys has provided several services. The first aim was to update the existing report on the port sector of India with the latest data on port cargo volumes, capacities, hinterland connections, private finance participation and more. Further, Ecorys produced policy papers on port governance and stakeholder consultation. Together with these policy papers, four case studies provided additional information on these two topics, including port network development in Turkey, port hinterland development in the Maputo corridor, competition regulation of ports in the EU and the redevelopment of old port facilities in Boston.

National Transport Development Policy Committee (NTDPC) asked Ecorys to advice on the regulatory framework to generally adopt for Indian ports, as well as to provide some specific answers for strategic issues.
