Project title: End Point Review of the Sanitation and Nutrition Program (SANNUT) In West Pokot and Development of the Roadmap for National Scale Up
Detailed project description: In 2016, UNICEF piloted an enhanced form of the Kenya National Protocol for Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) in Kitui County and started its implementation at a larger scale in West Pokot County in 2018. West Pokot County has the second highest rates of stunting in Kenya at 45.9%, and is among the top five counties in Kenya with highest open defection rates. The SANNUT approach was rolled out in all the four sub-counties in West Pokot County, though not implemented at full scale in each of the sub-county that is South, North, West, and Central. The approach was changed to have targeted approach that would allow for learning before taking to scale.
Detailed description of the assignment: The purpose of the end point review was to: assess the effectiveness of the program in improving optimal nutritional and WASH behavioural practices among caregivers by collecting primary data and undertake any complementary secondary analysis of health-facility morbidity data in areas where, and during the time when SANNUT was implemented; Identify the limitations, challenges, barriers, facilitators, and enablers in the implementation process and synthesize the lessons learnt; Lead engagements with various stakeholders and government leadership teams at both national level and in selected counties (including their leadership) to disseminate the results, and; Develop a road map for a possible national scale-up of the SANNUT program in Kenya adapted to the resource context, findings of the review and leveraging on existing structures.
