Description

The IADB-funded Health Sector Programme (HSP) in Guyana sought to improve the effectiveness, quality and equity of access to health services in the country. HLSP led the implementation of a key component of the HSP: improving organisational and institutional capacity.

HLSP provided technical assistance in:

  • institutional strengthening (assisting the Ministry of Health’s effort to strengthen system-wide governance and improve institutional capacity)
  • human resources development, including developing workforce planning capacity, modernising training programmes and identifying incentives
  • improvement of the health management information system
  • strengthening of the pharmaceutical system to improve access to essential drugs, vaccines and other health care supplies
