Description: The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) intends to negotiate a sole source commercial service contract with the Regents of the University of Colorado – Denver. USDA requires metagenomic DNA and RNA sequencing of 75 samples by conducting library preparation and Illumina high-throughput sequencing. Metagenomic sequencing requires a laboratory with all the equipment to conduct multiple sample quality control checks, library preparation, and highthroughput DNA sequencers such as an Illumina HiSeq or NovaSeq. Additional requirements  include the ability to develop custom protocols for working with non-model organisms and offer in-person consultation for protocol troubleshooting for unique and rare samples. The laboratory must be located within 100 miles of the NWRC (Fort Collins, CO) to allow researchers to hand deliver the rare specimens to guarantee sample integrity, which is critical for metagenomic sequencing. The NWRC requires a 4-week completion of sample processing to meet funding deadlines. The Contractor will conduct sample quality evaluation, metagenomics library preparation for genomic DNA, RNAseq library preparation for total RNA, and Illumina sequencing. The Contractor will provide 10-20 million total reads per sample for both RNA and DNA for up to 75 samples.
