Objective

Distributed Design is one outcome of the intersection of two global trends: the Maker Movement and the digitisation of the design discipline. This convergence has lead to the rise of a new market, in which creative individuals have access to digital tools that allow them to design, produce and fabricate products themselves or easily connect to a global network of collaborators to undertake aspects of this process with them. We call this process and the subsequent market which is emerging from these trends, Distributed Design. DD Platform’s activities -awards, exhibitions, networking, quality label, challenges, training workshops, mentoring- will contribute to promoting creative emerging talent. Ultimately, DD pursues: 1- To foster and promote the visibility and recognition of European Maker and Design culture by supporting the emerging makers’ mobility and international circulation of works to help them reach new and wider audiences in Europe and beyond. 2- To boost the professionalization and international career development of emerging makers through a set of activities (training courses, incubator and accelerator programmes) aiming at empowering them to respond to market challenges. 3. To stimulate and improve the connections among makers, designers and the industry, market and regional ecosystems by means of sharing of good practices (strategies, tools, guides, contents) and networking activities promoting a fair, inclusive and diverse environment for emerging makers. 4. To deploy a DD Branding Strategy ensuring the development of a recognisable Europe-wide editorial strategy for the DD Platform and a DD Quality Label aligned with a set of values: Open, Collaborative, Sustainable, Ecosystemic. 5. Contribute to increasing the European dimension and the geographic diversity of the Distributed Design’s artistic programming through financial support to local activities from DD members. 6. To ensure adequate visibility of the DD Platform activities.
