Objective: The Customs and Excise Department (DAIIEE), dependent on the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT), is entrusted with the mission of fighting against tobacco smuggling, counterfeiting, illegal trade, money laundering and fraud. Our geographical location makes Spain the gateway to the rest of Europe and a strategic link for traffic that crosses the Atlantic. To fulfill its objective, DAIIEE is constantly searching for integral solutions that provide greater flexibility and mobility and a greater degree of efficiency. Taking into account the above, the DAEEII has launched a modernization plan for its entire non-intrusive inspection system towards a more sustainable and efficient model. NIICE is part of this modernization plan, boosting the traditional function of customs, and significantly enhancing the control of goods and people entering and leaving through the external borders of the Union. NIICE contributes this through three Action Plans (Axes) as a Coordinate System: Axis1: Renewal plan for obsolete equipment Axis 2: Equipment acquisition/update plan to expand the scope of inspection processes and gradually incorporate an interoperable data and image management model. Axis 3: Contingency Equipment Procurement Plan for UK Withdrawal from the EU These three axes will allow each NIICE work package to be equipped in terms of effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability.
