Singapore Workforce Development Agency Community and Social Services Training- Nationwide training delivery in community and social services for the Singapore Government

Client: Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA).

Project description:

• the Singapore Workforce Development Agency is a Singapore Government Department mandated to enhance the employability and skills of the Singapore workforce through building the continuing education and training infrastructure.
• the Singapore WDA has an ambitious program to systematically reform its vocational training to international best practice standards for key industry sectors.
• this process will support a modern and robust industry driven VET system.  This also is the impetus to drive change in public and private providers. Included in this is the designation of Continuing Education and Training Centres of which BHI is one for the Community and Social Services Industry (CSS).

BHIS’s role:

• in the CSS industry, the Institute has been contracted by WDA to design and deliver training in areas including senior services, student services, youth care and outreach, disability services and protection and rehabilitation.  The training is delivered through a BHI subsidiary, BHI Singapore.
• previously, the Institute developed the national competency map and qualifications framework (called a WSQ- Workforce Skills Qualifications System) for the CSS industry.
• this project will deliver a paradigm shift for the CSS sector, assisting it to move from a volunteer-based to a professional industry.
• the Institute has also taken a leadership role in the development of high quality learning materials to enhance the training delivery.
• customisation for best outcomes includes: incorporating a range of innovative teaching and assessment methodologies including classroom, laboratory, on-the-job, workplace training, blended learning, action learning and experiential learning.
