Recently the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) has been experiencing a power deficit and the region's investments in new electricity infrastructure are not keeping pace with the rapidly growing demand for power. In order to address this in the short to medium term, SAPP has requested a study into the potential and best options for energy efficiency interventions in the SAPP interconnected system. The objectives of the study are to identify and enhance the use of extensive options for efficiency measures in the SAPP interconnected system and to provide recommendations on high priority energy efficiency projects to be implemented on a regional level.
Description of Services Provided:
PPA Energy was asked to undertake a Needs Assessment study on Energy Efficiency in the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP). This involved reviewing the current and proposed programme of energy efficiency measures in SAPP member countries; undertaking a needs assessment survey, to identify the needs of SAPP users; and prioritising energy efficiency projects to be co-ordinated by SAPP for implementation. As part of the project PPA Energy lead two workshops with SAPP members.
