Description

Client: Tullow Uganda OPS (Pty) Ltd.

The objectives of the study were to assess the potential demand for HFO for power generation in Uganda over the initial seven years of oil production from Kaiso Tonya near Lake Albert, by evaluating the likely dispatch levels at both plants under a number of scenarios.

Description of Services Provided:

The study involved updating the electricity demand forecast for Uganda, and carrying out generation simulation studies to assess the likely generation by the Mputa and Namanve diesel power plants based on the updated demand forecast.  Other key uncertainties that could affect the future demand for HFO for power generation, including the hydrological conditions that may prevail and the timing of the development of the 200 MW Karuma hydro power plant, were evaluated.  These uncertainties were treated using a scenario approach.  Power export scenarios were examined covering the cases where there is surplus hydro energy (low demand and high hydrology).
