Programme(s): Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (CERV)-undefined
Topic(s): CERV-2022-CITIZENS-REM
Type of action: CERV Lump Sum Grants
Project ID: 101091129
Objective :
What is life like without democracy? Has democracy lived up to its promises? What does a healthy democracy need to function effectively? What is the role of citizens? 360 Degrees of Democracy explores how strengthening democracy and peace can take place by critically reflecting on recent transitions to democracy across Europe. Departing from the local community level, the project uses a storytelling approach to fill in gaps in our knowledge about living in a non-democratic system. The collected stories will be used in multiple ways to enhance dialogue about democracy across generations, cultures and countries. The project comprises a set of carefully curated activities: 1. collecting transition stories in 10 EU countries 2. organisation of 10 local experiences inspired by the stories 3. development and European tour of a transnational travelling experience 4. creation of a transnational educational resource and workshops for teachers 5. research 6. production and screening of a documentary 7. building online engagement on the topic. Depending on the local context it will involve participants of different ages and backgrounds – children and youth, teachers, journalists, seniors, underrepresented groups. Thanks to our online presence and the multimedia outputs there will be at least 25.000 direct and 150.000 indirect beneficiaries of the project. As a result we will have acquired insights into the way intergenerational and intercultural dialogue about recent history influences the people engaged in this dialogue. We will have increased cross-border and cross-sectoral collaboration on European Remembrance in the field of research, education and public history. Apart from the many activities across Europe, the outputs of the project include: 30 recorded transition stories, a series of multimedia productions, an interactive website in 10 languages, a 20- minute documentary, an interactive travelling experience, an educational resource, a research publication.
