Goal: To increase the food security and living standards of Kenyan sorghum farmers by achieving sustainable rural development and agricultural growth. EUCORD is working toward quantitative and qualitative increase in sorghum production in semi-arid areas.
What we do: EUCORD has been working with rural sorghum farmers to identify and introduce new varieties of sorghum as well as soil and water conservation technologies. We have been training farmers to give them the skills they need to produce the highest quality and quantity of sorghum. In addition we have been assisting with the development of relationships between the farmers, out-growers and input suppliers, as well as the development of business plans through workshops and individual counseling.
Accomplishments: So far, beneficiaries of the project have been selected and 120 tons of seeds have been purchased in preparation for the long rainy season. In addition trading partners have been selected.
