The overall objective of the Technical Assistance Project is to support the preparation of a sound project pipeline for the environmental sector as a prerequisite of absorption of Structural and Cohesion Funds available from the European Union. The main objectives are
• to ensure compliance with the national and EU legislation within the transition periods agreed between Romania and EU for the environmental sector.
• to ensure an optimal utilisation of EU funds.
• to assist the project promoters in developing local capacity for future project development.
• to define a long term phased investment programme.
The projects concern regional systems of integrated waste management for each county, covering both urban and rural areas. It includes, among others, the following activities:
• precollection, collection, transportation and storage of solid residues.
• set up and management of adequate waste treatment and disposal facilities.
• pre-selection and organisation of waste recycling.
