Description of Contract: UNDP-YEM-00283 Rehabilitation of the Oil Berth No 1, Hodeidah Port, Hodeidah, Yemen
The Oil Berth Number 1 of Hodeidah Port was constructed in early 1960s. It is located at the end of the water yard for vessels turn around at Hodeidah seaport. It is about 450m away from the commercial berths in the seaport and its level is 2.50m from sea zero level. The length of the berth is 27.5m and its width is 7.50m. The berth has one dolphin sea platform (6 x 6 meters) at the same level for oil tankers berthing and anchorage. It also has two connection joint floaters (front and rear). The design depths before the berth are from 6 to 6.5 meters.
The design capacity for tankers this berth receives does not exceed 6000 DWT.
However, with the passage of years and the lack of depth maintenance in a periodic and systematic manner, the direct depths in front of the berth have shrunk to become from 4.4 to 4.8 meters.
The berth and its dolphin compose of the following main components:
• Foundations made of Larssen 5 sheet piles with internal bridges to distribute pressure and connected by solid steel connections (85mm diameter).
• Reinforced concrete berth and the dolphin.
• Two Bollards with a tensile strength of 60 tons each (quantity: 2 for the berth and 1 for the dolphin with foundations).
• Cylindrical rubber Fenders fitted on the southern face of the berth and the dolphin (quantity: 8 for the berth and 1 for the dolphin).
• Floating mooring buoys (front and end) with a tensile strength of 100 tons each.
• And other accessories as mentioned in the BOQ and the drawings
The rehabilitation works include, but not limited to, the following:
➢ Demolition works; this comprises the complete demolition and legal disposal of all concrete element including capping/ fascia beam, deck slab, and bollard foundation, as outlined in the design drawings and BOQ as directed by the Engineer.
➢ Supply and cast ready mix reinforced concrete according to the drawings, specifications and BOQs.
➢ Deepening Works: Perform dredging in front of the berth and dolphin covering an area of 120m X 25m as outlined in the design drawings, specifications and BOQ as directed by the Engineer.
➢ Clearing, dismantling and transportation of all accessories on the berth and dolphin; these include bollards, fenders, oil pipes, oil leakage tank, etc. to either receive the required maintenance or legally disposed of to the approved dumping site as detailed in the BOQ as directed by the Engineer.
➢ Reinstalling all accessories to their original location as directed by the Engineer.
The contractor’s scope shall also include all pre and post construction activities/ requirements to perform the rehabilitation works including, mobilization, demobilization, HSE (Health, Safety and Environment), etc.
