Objective: "Artificial Intelligence (AI) is raising multiple concerns in the education sector. The surge of chat-based Large Language Models, such as ChatGPT, since 2022 and the recent voting on the European Union's first AI Act highlight the importance of promoting AI literacy and providing guidance for teachers on emerging issues. The widespread adoption of AI is reshaping skill requirements in European economies, increasing the demand for both technical AI skills and soft skills like critical thinking, adaptability, emotional intelligence, and cross-cultural communication. The ""AI2PI Teacher Academy"" aims to integrate AI reflection into pedagogical practices to enhance education quality across Europe. The project includes a consortium of 7 universities (Berlin, Kaunas, Turku, Bolzano, Braga, Innsbruck, Ume), including two CPD providers (PH Tirol and UMinho), the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), and at least 7 training schools. The initiative addresses the need for a teacher education curriculum that provides a context- and needs-based perspective on AI in education, including blended course modules serving as microcredentials. To achieve these objectives, the project will adopt a design-based research (DBR) methodology. This iterative and contextualized approach involves developing educational interventions that are theoretically sound and tailored to practice. The Teacher Academy will define an AI literacy competence framework, extending established frameworks like DigCompEdu and TPACK. It will assess the needs of teachers, schools, and stakeholders, and build communities of practice capable of addressing educational challenges related to AI, while advancing new internationalization models and mobility formats. By equipping educators with the knowledge and skills to navigate challenges and opportunities, the project will contribute to the European mission of responsible use of AI for the benefit of all. "
