Description

Title: Renewable Energy for Extractive Reserves in the Amazon

Program: Environment

Program area: Advancing Climate Change Solutions

About this grant: This project supports the World Wildlife Fund and its partner, World Wildlife Fund Brazil, in enhancing solar energy access for forest communities in sustainable development reserves in the Amazon. Over the last grant period, the grantee has coordinated a network of civil society organizations working on renewable electrification, produced informative radio programs, and facilitated cooperation between the Brazilian government, the Brazilian Development Bank, energy forums and local communities. With the renewal of this grant, World Wildlife Fund will continue to: 1) engage with key stakeholders to accelerate a renewable energy expansion in the Amazon; 2) create renewable energy access guidelines for extractive reserves; and 3) consolidate lessons learned from the coordination of a network of civil society groups.
