Description

Criminal Justice

Since 1975, the organization has been the single bipartisan, national, professional organization that has as its exclusive membership all 7,383 state legislators and their staff. It provides research, technical assistance, and opportunities for policymakers to exchange information on critical state issues, and ensures states a strong, cohesive voice in the federal system. This award supports a Safety and Justice Challenge strategic alley, to engage in education and technical assistance, highlighting policy and practice innovations affecting local criminal justice systems and the misuse, overuse, and racially disparate use of jails. It’s prominent and recognized forums and communications outlets help promote the diffusion of specific policy and practice innovations, develop legislative leadership capacity for addressing justice issues, and raise the profile of local justice systems' reform as a state-level policy priority.
