Objective:

The overall objective of the Project “ÖBB Taurus_railjet ETCS Upgrade 2025-2029” is the ETCS upgrade from Baseline 2.3d to Baseline 3.6 of the ÖBB’s Taurus (1016, 1116) [Siemens ES64U2, ES64U4 of Eurosprinter family] and railjet (8090) fleet. - A total of 303 units Type Taurus: 1 Prototype BR1116 ETCS PZB LZB MIREL (WP2) 21 units BR1016 - ETCS PZB LZB, 151 units BR1116 - ETCS PZB LZB, 54 units BR1116 - ETCS PZB LZB MIREL (WP 3) 1 Prototype BR1116 ETCS PZB LZB EVM (WP 4) 75 units BR1116 ETCS PZB LZB EVM (WP 5) - A total of 1 Prototype unit Type railjet reversible cab car (Steuerwagen 8090 ETCS PZB LZB Mirel) (WP 6) The ÖBB Taurus fleet is the backbone of the Austrian freight and long-distance passenger rail transportation. ÖBB Produktion GmbH and ÖBB Personenverkehr AG currently operate a total of 449 units of the Siemens ES64U2/U4 (Austrian trademark Taurus and railjet) to fulfil the transport needs for national and international freight as well as long-distance public transport. They support the goals of the Master Plan with high quality and efficient vehicles and promote public transport with up-to-date vehicles to facilitate the shift to rail.
