Description

Programme(s): Programme for the Environment and Climate Action (LIFE)
Topic(s): LIFE-2024-STRAT-CLIMA-SIP-two-stage
Type of action: LIFE Project Grants

Project ID: 101202890

Objective:

The proposed project will create the necessary framework for implementation of the Strategy for Adaptation of the Slovak Republic to Climate Change and its National Adaptation Action Plan through nature-based solutions in sustainable and resilient Water Management, Agriculture, Forests, Biodiversity, Human Settlements and Health in Slovakia. This will lead to decreasing vulnerabilities and enhancing the overall adaptive capacity to cope with the negative consequences of climate change well beyond the validity of the current adaptation strategy. Project objectives will be accomplished by making knowledge widely available, good practices developed and shared, proper impact monitoring and evaluation mechanisms in place, institutions strengthened and human resources trained. Nature-based solutions and associated knowledge will be developed, tested, demonstrated and validated in selected pilot and demonstration sites, which include three river basins, five national parks, three pilot cities and a network of agricultural farms. Complementary actions will ensure broad up-scaling of project outcomes throughout the entire territory of Slovakia. The project will support mobilisation and coordinated use of substantial funding from sources such as the Common Agricultural Policy, Operational Programme Slovakia and Recovery and Resilience Plan, among others. The consortium is composed of organisations with national mandate and experience in climate change adaptation in the different policy areas and sectors covered by the strategy and detailed in this proposal. It is led by the Slovak Environment Agency in close collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, which has the central responsibility for the targeted adaptation strategy. The proposed project goes beyond the state of the art by building an integrated, multi-disciplinary and cross-sectorial climate change adaptation policy implementation process. It puts collaboration with stakeholder groups at the core of its agenda.
