Feasibility Study of Project "Reducing Mining Contamination in the Rio Grande basin - Region of Puno"
Details
Description
This program is based on carrying out a feasibility study for constructing a dam to contain sediment deposition due to mining activity in the upper part of the Rio Grande and gold mine activity. The earth dam has a capacity of 43 hm3; 23 of which corresponds to dead volume (where sediments will be deposited) and 20 to operating volume. The use of this operating volume will be reviewed to be used for other purposes such as agriculture. The height of the proposed dam is 31 meters and 381 meters crown with 2:1 slopes upstream and downstream, and a crown width of 6 meters, also serving as a road. For the construction of the dam is planned to divert the river along 310 meters through a diversion tunnel 550 meters long with a capacity of 52 m3/s. This study also includes a series of activities focused on modernization and regulation of mining activities. It will also include activities that focus on educating and training people about the environment using the following programs:
- Program on training and awareness
- Programme on Environmental Monitoring
- Programme for the regulation of mining activities
- Programme for the modernization of mining
- Programme on Occupational Health
