Description
Contract for: Using Innovative Technologies to Prevent Human Trafficking
Purchase order number: PO 5721
Objective:
-
To support pilot projects that suggest a series of solutions using technology and communication systems, such as mobile phones, to target the different elements of human trafficking of women and children from India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. Pilot projects should add value to existing anti-trafficking initiatives – e.g. through more integrated approaches, but also new partnerships, better diagnostics and analysis.
-
The pilot projects are distinct pieces of work that will help to inform DFID’s approach and development of the implementation phase of DFID’s four-year programme to prevent trafficking of 60,000 women and girls from South Asia into garment and domestic work (2012-2014).
-
Reports on outputs and recommendations from the pilot projects should contribute to global evidence of good practice in the area of trafficking, labour migration and forced or bonded labour practices. Where possible, pilots could demonstrate tangible benefits and results for actual women and girls at risk of trafficking or who have been trafficked.
Focus Countries
-
The geographical focus is South Asia – specifically India, Nepal and Bangladesh. Activities may include countries of destination – e.g. Gulf States, Europe, Middle East, Pakistan, Malaysia.
-
Pilot projects should involve more than one country area of focus, but need not include all three countries in South Asia. (e.g. Bangladesh & UAE, or India & Nepal)
