European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) - Country Based Support Schemes (CBSS) - Would You Like to Be in My Shoes?

The general objectives of the new instrument are to contribute to the development and consolidation of democracy and the rule of law and respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms within the framework of the Community’s policy on development cooperation and economic, financial and technical cooperation with third countries, consistent with the European Union’s foreign policy as a whole.

The objective of this call for proposals is: Strengthening the role of civil society in promoting human rights and democratic reform, in supporting the peaceful conciliation of group interests and in consolidating political participation and representation (Strategy Paper points 32 to 38 and 73 to 76 http://ec.europa.eu/europeaid/what/human-rights/documen/eidhr_strategy_paper_2007-2010_en.pdf).

 Country specific objectives for Croatia are:

Initiatives supporting activities and capacity building of new or fragile civil society organisations formed by groups whose interests are underrepresented, or otherwise contributing to the empowerment of such groups for instance minority groups, people with disabilities, women workers, children and LGBT groups.

The term “minorities” is to be understood in the wider extent encompassing national minorities, gender minorities, ethnic minorities, religious minorities, race minorities, and persons with developmental difficulties, sexual minorities and others who are in the same time vulnerable, marginalized and discriminated.
