Description

Project title: Construction of Bwanje Valley Dam

Publication reference: EuropeAid/137303/IH/WKS/MW

Contract number: FED/2016/376-258

Contract Description: Lot 1: Construction of Bwanje Valley Dam

The contract is to implement all construction-works on the Bwanje dam for and on-behalf of the Contracting Authority and its Supervisor.
The dam will be 40 metres high and approximately 150 m long with a storage capacity of 5.64 million m³ (resulting in the provision of irrigation water to sufficiently irrigate 800 ha in wet and dry seasons). Works on Bwanje Valley Dam include the construction of a zoned earth-fill dam on a rocky foundation with a right bank spillway allowing flood flows to be safely routed away from the dam into a downstream tributary.
The design takes into account future possibilities of raising the dam on the existing embankment which would provide storage of 27 million m³. The Bwanje Valley Dam Project (N 8415903; E 663644) is located near the Mua Forest Reserve in the Golomoti-Dedza District of the Central Region.

Duration: 12 months
