Resilient Woman of Africa

Resilient Woman is a community-based organization that provides transitional services for currently incarcerated women, ex-convicts, and their children by building their resilience through pre-release trauma management training and post-release mentorship. After the trauma management training, our mentor-a-sister program matches a mentee with a trained mentor who provides the much-needed support and guidance to the mentee. Resilient Woman recognizes the vulnerability of women especially upon leaving prison when they have to take care of their children with no relevant strategy of sustaining their livelihoods. They also face a lot of stigma and discrimination and often times isolated by the same communities that they once lived.

Our intervention is incomplete without the much-needed psycho-social support and schooling needs of our clients’ children. Therefore, Resilient Woman’s Reversing the Effects of Parental Incarceration and Retrogressive Practices School Program (REPIRPS), aims at identifying the needs of children affected by parental incarceration and retrogressive practices and meeting those needs. This way we break the negative cycle of incarceration.
