Chuuk Public Utility Corporation

CPUC is constituted under the “Chuuk Public Utility Corporation Act of 1996” (The CPUC Act). The CPUC Act clearly lays out the obligations of CPUC, its legal capacity and sets out the institutional requirements for board members and senior management. The Act is very clear that CPUC is to “Operate as the provider of public services within the State ….” And that CPUC should “prepare and institute plans for the feasibility, establishment, maintenance and improvement of public utilities on all Chuuk State islands”.

This expectation is enshrined through the Board of CPUC which is composed of 5 members each of which represents one of the 5 regions of Chuuk State. The vision and mission of CPUC is very clear that the long term goal of CPUC is to support the economic development of Chuuk State.

NATIONAL & STATE ENERGY POLICY

The FSM has a national energy policy the broad aims of which are to see renewable technology account for 30% of  FSM energy production by 2020 and for there to be a 50% increase in energy efficiency over the same period. Each of the FSM states have their own energy policy and implementation plan -  these are loosely linked to the general aims of FSM National policy.

CPUC Vision:

We will provide the essential infrastructure and services to attract visitors to Chuuk State and support its economic development. Over time we will expand our services throughout the State sharing the benefits we can provide with all.

CPUC Mission:

CPUC exists to serve the people of Chuuk State – we will endeavour to be a reliable and knowledgeable service provider of power, water and wastewater solutions for the state of Chuuk.Through the dedication of our staff we will be the utility you can depend on to improve your standard of living, health and happiness

We will develop our staff and educate this and future generations in the efficient use of resources and protection of the environment.

The profits we generate will be used to expand our services and through our actions we will create the conditions to attract overseas investment to our islands;

We will be transparent and open with all stakeholders.
