The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) strengthens democracy around the globe through private enterprise and market-oriented reform.

Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE). Founded in 1983 and based in Washington, DC, CIPE is a business-oriented NGO working at the intersection of economic development and entrepreneurship with democracy and good governance. CIPE maintains a network of partners, including business associations, chambers of commerce, think tanks and other civil society organizations in over 70 countries, and has field offices and representatives in more than 20 countries, including a Europe regional office in Bratislava. CIPE is an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and a core institute of the National Endowment for Democracy.

Objectives:

  1. Foster institutions necessary to establish and sustain market-oriented democracies.
  2. Increase private sector participation in the democratic process.
  3. Increase support for and understanding of the freedoms, rights, and responsibilities essential to market-oriented democracies among government officials, businesspeople, media and the public.
  4. Improve governance through transparency and accountability in the public and private sectors.
  5. Strengthen freedom of association and private, voluntary business organizations.
  6. Promote an entrepreneurial culture and understanding of how markets work.
  7. Expand access to information necessary for sound entrepreneurial and policy decisions.
