About
Bundesministerium fur Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) is a government body formed in 1955 in Bonn, Germany with a second office in Berlin, that is engaged in educational and research activities throughout Germany.
The BMBF constantly prepares itself to meet global challenges in education and research and is divided into 8 departments (Policy & Strategy Department, Education & Training Department, Life Sciences Department, etc.), that reflect these priorities. The BMBF’s tasks are diverse – from legislation to health care and it is largely responsible for legislation and policy framework mainly within further education and training. The BMBF also funds research projects in all fields of science and promotes the next generation of scientists. The BMBF has been conducting the Science Years for over 20 years during which social debates about new developments are initiated. In addition, it supports research projects through funding programs for which applicants have to apply. Since 2007, the BMBF has established a number of “Health Research Centres”, that are expected to make progress in the treatment of important common diseases through collaboration between numerous research institutions. The BMBF makes a significant contribution towards shaping digital change on the part of the federal government, for example, by strengthening research and technology development in the context of innovation funding, in particular microelectronics, artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and IT security.
BMBF key sectors: Public Administration, Policy Framework, Education & Training, Research & Innovation, Science, Health Care, Environment & Climate Change, Culture, Social Development, ICT, etc.
