Competence Norway is a directorate under the Ministry of Education and Research. We work to give everyone the opportunity to secure the necessary skills and learn throughout their lives.

The world is changing, and Norway is changing. Globalization and new technology are affecting society, and working life requires employees with more and more new skills. More people must be given the opportunity to secure new skills throughout their lives.

It is important for people to have a job, and it is important for society that as many jobs as possible. Therefore, competence development is one of the most important policy areas in the future.

Competence Norway ensures:

allowing adults access to flexible learning
that Norwegian companies work purposefully with competence development
that the authorities and most people have good knowledge of what kind of expertise we need in the future
that immigrants receive good Norwegian training and good tests
that young people and adults alike have access to free, quality-assured career guidance
Competence is the ability to solve tasks and master challenges in specific situations. Competence includes our knowledge, skills and attitudes and how we use them together. Competence policy is the sum of ambitions and measures to develop and apply competence throughout the population.

Competence Norway manages operating grants to student associations , distance education institutions and other organizations. In addition, they allocate funds for educational development work and manage Basic competence in working life .

The organization also conducts surveys, investigations, analyzes and evaluations based on data from public records and documents. Vox publishes figures and facts about adult learning in its statistics bank.

It follows up curriculum and Norwegian exams related to education in Norwegian and social science for adult immigrants , as well as continuing education for teachers and school leaders.

Competence Norway develops methods and mapping tools that build on the competence goals of the adult's basic skills and establishes continuing education and training programs for teachers and instructors.
