Joint Directorate for the National Police and Gendarmerie, the Directorate of International Cooperation (DCI) was created on 1 September 2010. It brings together policemen and gendarmes working on international police cooperation set up by the State for better protect its citizens and its interests.

An international response to the multiple challenges of a changing world

To better counter the various threats that emerge outside our borders such as terrorism, transnational organized crime, drug or arms trafficking, cybercrime ..., cooperation between countries must be accentuated. For France, the network of internal security attachés (A.S.I.), composed of 250 police and gendarmes deployed in 92 embassies and covering 156 countries, is an effective means of bilateral or multilateral cooperation.

A mission of coordination and animation

The DCI participates in the implementation of the international strategy of the Ministry of the Interior and in the implementation of France's foreign policy on internal security. It animates and coordinates the operational, technical and institutional cooperation of the national police and gendarmerie, with the exception of matters exclusively within the intelligence services. To carry out its missions, the DCI relies on a central level and decentralized services established abroad, the internal security services (S.S.I.), the police and gendarmes stationed in the country or countries considered.

A quest for coherence and efficiency

The creation of the DCI makes it possible to reduce costs and improve performance by bringing together in one and the same structure, the major players in international police cooperation.
