The Italian Foundation for the Heart Association (FIPC) was founded in 1990 at the behest of the illustrious scientist Rodolfo Paoletti, and was founded by the Giovanni Lorenzini Foundation - Medical Science Foundation on the spur of the enormous success of the first educational campaign for the reduction of cholesterol, held in the 1980s and subsequently of the one on triglycerides as a risk factor (see below); The FIPC Association is a legally recognized non-profit organization (nr. 14.12.649, 2/4/2004), which operates on several fronts, with particular attention to cardiovascular diseases and their prevention.

He is an effective member for Italy of the World Heart Federation of Geneva, and is an active member of the European Heart Network based in Brussels. Interacting with national and international scientific societies, it carries out dissemination activities of scientific updating relating to cardiovascular diseases and facilitates interaction between the medical-scientific world, institutions, authorities and the public.

The FIPC Association together with the World Heart Federation and other national and supranational bodies participates in the activities of the "NCD Alliance" (a network of over 2000 organizations representing civil society present in over 170 countries) which has recently allowed the achievement of a unique goal and unrepeatable: in fact, during the United Nations Assembly in New York, from 20 to 22 September 2011, the importance and the health, political and economic urgency of giving priority to the cardiovascular emergency in the context of the common fight against chronic non-communicable diseases (NCD). As a member of the NCD Alliance on 22 September 2011 the FIPC Association brought the message of the United Nations to the Italian Senate by organizing an important debate on the subject.
