Garoowe (Garowe) Municipality

Garowe has been the administrative capital of Puntland since its establishment as an autonomous region of Somalia in 1998. Situated in the northeast of the country, Garowe is the third-largest city in Puntland after Boosaaso and Gaalkacyo and had an estimated population in 2019 of 190,000, most of whom are Somalis from the Darod Clan.

After being established as the capital, the city has seen consistent population growth and become considerably more politically important, now housing the regional parliament, the presidential palace and government ministries as well as the headquarters of  most of the international NGOs active in Puntland

Garowee is now one of the region's key territories, providing  reasonably good health, education, water and electricity services and it has the vision to build “a city with well-developed social services, good environment and infrastructure, and successful business and industry.”
