Description
UNODC has been successfully implementing two national projects since 2000 in Tajikistan focusing on the provision of support to the Tajik Drug Control Agency and on strengthening control along Tajik Afghan Border. Both projects assist with capacity building through necessary expertise, resources, equipment and training.
In addition, Tajikistan is an active participant of UNODC global and regional projects such as “Strengthening drug law enforcement systems for criminal intelligence collection, analysis and exchange”, “Precursors control in Central Asia“, “Establishment of a Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre (CARICC)”, “Countering the trafficking of Afghan opiates via the northern route by enhancing the capacity of key border crossings points (BCPs) and through the establishment of Border Liaison Offices (BLOs) and as well as the projects aimed at effective HIV/AIDS prevention and care among vulnerable population.
UNODC also recently launched UNODC Regional Programme for Afghanistan and Neighboring Countries assisting the 8 countries in West and Central Asia in promoting regional counter-narcotics cooperation in law enforcement, legal and health related areas.
Additionally, UNODC cooperates with Tajik authorities on several global projects including the Legal Advisory Programme (GLO/900), promoting the implementation of the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, the Protocol against Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea and Air (GLO/T55), the Paris Pact Initiative (GLO/K31), treatment and care (GLO/J71), and prevention of drug use, HIV/AIDS and crime among young people through family skills training (GLO/K01).
On these and other issues, regional and national projects continue to be developed, in close coordination with regional and national partners, which support and contribute to improving human security in Central Asia and Azerbaijan.
