About

The territory of today's Ilfov county has been inhabited since the time of the carved stone, 150,000 years ago.
Archaeological evidence attests to the presence of man on this territory since the Paleolithic (Pantelimon, Măgurele area), Neolithic (Cernica and Jilava areas) and from the Bronze and Iron Ages, from which the Geto-Dacian vestiges are detached, then the Roman and Romanian ones. The oldest traces of habitation discovered in the current perimeter of Ilfov county date back to the Neolithic, through the vestiges unearthed in the localities of Cernica, Glina and Vidra. The conquest (101-102, 105-106) and then the Roman occupation (106-271/275) of Dacia influenced today's Ilfov lands, and the raids, temporary occupations of other peoples from the 3rd-7th centuries, left traces in the lives of the inhabitants .
The first documentary mention of Ilfov dates back to March 23, 1482, when ruler Basarab the Younger made a donation to the Snagov Monastery.
