Railways of the Slovak Republic (Železnice Slovenskej republiky, ŽSR)

The Railways of the Slovak Republic were established by the entry into force of Act of the National Council of the Slovak Republic No. 258/1993 Coll. on the Railways of the Slovak Republic from September 30, 1993.

On the territory of the Slovak Republic, they manage the state-owned railway infrastructure and at the same time provide transport and transport services that correspond to the interests of the state transport policy and market requirements, including related activities.

In accordance with § 34 of Act no. 513/2009 Coll. on railways and on the amendment and supplementing of certain laws as amended by later regulations and on the basis of the valid Contract on the Operation of Railway Infrastructure (ZPŽI) perform the function of infrastructure manager, which results in the obligation for ŽSR to organize and ensure the operability of national and regional lines and to organize train transport on them for all carriers on a non-discriminatory basis.
