Water Research Institute (WRI)

Water Research Institute (WRI) is public organization managed by the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic. Water has become one of the most important issues of the 21st century and the Ministry can hardly function without its own research base which is designed to gain new knowledge actively at home and abroad and apply it in specific conditions. Water Research Institute is the only institute in Slovakia which conducts complex water management research. WRI library records more than 5550 final reports of tasks and projects which have been created by WRI experts during 60-year existence of the institute. Most of them have been applied into pracitce.WRI activities:  - Water management planning and concept - Reseach in hydraulics, hydroenergetics, hydrology, river morphology and landscape restoration in river basins -  Research of surface water, ground water, water and waste water treatment technologies National Water Reference Laboratory in Slovakia in WRI is responsible for 145 tasks this year and the key tasks were required by the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic. It is mainly meeting requirements of the most important document of European water policy - Water Framework Directive (2000/60/ES) aimed at reaching good water status of European water by 2015 and of many related directives.
