Forests of the Czech Republic, a state enterprise (LČR) was founded on 1 January 1992 by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic. The main activity of the company is the management of more than 1.2 million ha of forest property owned by the state (almost 86% of the area of all state forests) and the care of more than 38 thousand km of designated waterways and streams .

The company is based in Hradec Králové and its organizational structure has three levels. The first level consists of the directorate, the second 7 regional workplaces - regional directorates (OR), 5 forest plants (LZ), 1 seed plant (SZ) and 7 stream administrations . The third level of the organizational structure consists of 62 forest administrations (LS).

The basis of the company's forestry strategy is sustainable forest management based on the maximum use of the creative forces of nature, which will ensure continuous and balanced fulfillment of the production functions of entrusted forests. The goal of the company is the creation of stable, high-quality, species-, spatially- and age-group-mixed forests.

LČR also provide an important service for the owners of small private forests, namely the performance of the legally defined function of a professional forest manager on their properties. As the only entity in the Czech Republic, the LČR introduced internal qualifications for professional forest managers.
