South Sudan ranks 185 out of 189 on the Human Development Index (HDI). CARE International’s work in South Sudan has broadened to include health, nutrition, food security, peacebuilding, and gender-based violence protection.
Community Action for Rehabilitation and Education(CARE) is an indigenous national non-profit making, and non- governmental organization founded and registered by government of South Sudan as a national NGO with registration number REG/NO/ 3695 ( Under Chapter 3, Section 10 of NGO Act 2016), the founders of CARE are motivated honestly, transparently and dedicatedly to serve communities and clients in their infinite quest for quality services from various providers which principally include institutional donors, Non-governmental organizations (NGOS),United Nations Agencies (UN), Civil Society organizations (CSOS), private businesses and government. It’s a non-profit NGO which was founded in 2020. Initially, CARE is a community based advocacy organization that supported local communities of Cueibet and Rumbek voluntary on activities such as community mobilization to take collective actions to improve their education, sanitation conditions, agriculture in terms of food security and livelihoods, engaging women on micro finance activities such as VSLA, horticulture groups’ activities, awareness raising on HIV/AIDs, peace building and hygiene promotion campaign activities in rural villages of Mayath, Citcok, Ngap, Malou-Pech, Duony, Pagor, Cueibet Town and Abiriu Payams of Cueibet County and in Rumbek Centre, Rumbek East, Yirol West, Yirol Centre and Wulu Counties of Lakes State Rumbek. In 2020, the board of leadership for organization was established and the official registration of the organization was done in 14th, June, 2021. The organization was founded with an advocacy mandate of advocating at the local level for policy change and rights of the poor people. Within each of these areas, CARE is women centered organization and will focus on empowering and meeting the needs of women, girls and youth and promoting gender equality in education and other concern areas which are in need of improvement in South Sudan and more specially in greater Lakes.
