About
Standard Chartered Bank Zambia Limited is one of the oldest and most established commercial banks in Zambia, headquartered in Lusaka. Founded in 1906, it operates as a subsidiary of Standard Chartered PLC, the UK‑based multinational banking group. The bank provides a wide range of services including retail banking, corporate banking, wealth management, and investment solutions. As of 2021, it reported total assets of about ZMW 13.27 billion (US$761.6 million), with revenues of ZMW 1.32 billion and net income of ZMW 355.9 million.
Today, Standard Chartered Zambia continues to play a significant role in the country’s financial sector, though it is undergoing strategic changes. In October 2025, the bank announced the sale of its Wealth and Retail Banking business to First National Bank (FNB) Zambia, in line with Standard Chartered’s global strategy to focus on corporate and investment banking. This means that while retail clients are being transferred to FNB, Standard Chartered Zambia will maintain its presence in corporate and institutional banking, leveraging its international expertise to support trade, investment, and large‑scale projects in Zambia.
