Sanpaolo IMI (former Instituto San Paolo di Torino SpA)

Sanpaolo IMI was founded in 1998 by the merger of the banks Bancario San Paolo di Torino and IMI (Istituto Mobiliare Italiano). At the time of the merger, Bancario San Paolo di Torino was one of the oldest European banking entities, being the result of the historical evolution of a congregation founded on January 25, 1563 in Turin under the name of Compagnia di San Paolo [2] . Istituto Mobiliare Italiano was a public entity founded in 1931 to support the reconstruction of the Italian national industry .

On January 1, 2007 , Intesa Bank merged with Sanpaolo IMI , forming Intesa Sanpaolo , thus forming the largest banking group in Italy .
