About
The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was founded on November 27, 1918 in Kyiv. Its first president was a prominent scientist with a world name VI Vernadsky.
Status. According to the current legislation, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NAS of Ukraine, Academy) is the highest scientific self-governing organization of Ukraine based on state property. The self-government of the Academy consists in self-determination of research topics and forms of their organization and conduct, formation of its structure, solution of scientific-organizational, economic, personnel issues, implementation of international scientific relations, election and collegiality of governing bodies. The Academy unites full members, corresponding members and foreign members, all scientists of its institutions, organizes and carries out fundamental and applied scientific researches on the most important problems of natural, technical, social and human sciences.
